Urban Debate National Championship

Dallas Urban Debate put forward a strong performance at the Urban Debate National Championships this weekend in Washington DC. Both of DUDA's representative schools--Woodrow Wilson and Science and Engineering Magnet--put forward winning records and broke to elimination rounds. Woodrow Wilson advanced to octofinals, and SEM to quarters. In addition, Jack Hill of Woodrow Wilson received a top-20 individual award, and Olivia Northcutt-Wyly and Sophie Rahman of SEM both received top-10 individual speaker awards.

Volunteers Matter

Dallas Urban Debate Alliance hosts 12 weekend debate tournaments each academic year. Dallas ISD middle and high school students arrive by bus early on Saturday morning to compete against other schools. After intense prep during the school week, all they need is YOU. Without ample volunteer judges, many teams are in jeopardy of not competing. The disappointment on their faces is heartbreaking! So, on your next free Saturday, considering joining the hard working debaters of Dallas ISD as they raise their voices on issues of importance to each of us! 2nd Annual Mayor's Cup Public Debate

In early 2017, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance (DUDA) envisioned a public debate where the best Dallas ISD debaters could compete. The inaugural Mayor’s Cup Public Debate was a huge success. The 2nd Annual Public Debate highlighted four outstanding Dallas ISD debaters. Students competed at the spectacular Debate Chamber at Old Parkland. Alex More, Partner, Carrington Coleman served as the moderator of the debate.
